COURSE INFORMATION

.

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of building surveyors or certifiers  who most commonly work for councils or private companies assessing plans, carrying out inspections and issuing approvals to build and occupy a building.

The building surveyor has been defined by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (2011) as:

Those responsible for making sure buildings are safe, energy efficient, accessible and meet all legal requirements. They evaluate and assess plans, conduct inspections and issue building permits for example, occupancy permits. “

CPC60115 Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying (ADBS) replaces two existing qualifications being a Diploma of Building Surveying which focussed on residential housing, and the Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying which addressed low rise commercial buildings.

The new ADBS is unique as it offers an embedded skill set for residential housing which has been recognised by all state governments as a suitable level of education for accreditation as a residential building surveyor. This allows a student to practice as a residential building surveyor while continuing to study and develop skills in commercial buildings.

In 2016 CPD Training is offering the residential skill set only, which will take approximately 18 months to complete. In 2017 we will be offering units of study for commercial buildings as well.

Enrolment in 2016 will only be for the residential skill set.

On completing the CPC60115 Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying, graduates are qualified and recognised as having the skills and knowledge to fulfil the following roles:

  • Building Inspector
  • Building Surveyor
  • Building Certifier
  • Building Regulation Consultant
